Stan's Leukemia Fight

I'm writing this for my sister, Andrea, and brother-in-law, Stan. In September 2023, Stan was diagnosed with AML, Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Its aggressive, fast moving and required immediate treatment. So, within 10 days they were in NYC at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center receiving treatment.

When they first went for the initial consultation the Dr. stated Stan would do a month long stay in the hospital while doing a round of chemotherapy, get into remission, and then go through a Bone Marrow Transplant. The time frame from start to finish should have been 3-4 months, with following regular appointments. Well, the round of chemo did not do basically what it was supposed to do. There were numerous cancer cells still in his system. Therefore, he must go through another round before he can receive the transplant. We're hoping this round will take, and then go along as planned with the transplant. If not, then, he has to go for another round. Each of these rounds require about a month in the hospital and Andrea has been bouncing from hotel to hotel trying to stay close by. Stan will require around the clock caregiver (Andrea) supervision over the next procedures which will last about 4 months all together and she will soon be out of time at work and out without pay.

On top of that his insurance, which both my sister and Stan were told by representatives that everything would be covered, does not. Don't worry, they said, you are covered for everything! This included their hotel stay, (no matter where they could get a room), their food, and mileage. Well, that was not true. They only cover a percentage of their bills. They are a wonderful couple that have done so much for our family, and everyone else. Anything to help them cover expenses while they are going through this would be so appreciated. I've taken it upon myself to start this page because neither of them would ask for help and I've had numerous people contact me asking how they can help and some even dropping off money to forward to them. Stan has a very long road ahead of him. Andrea will be there with him throughout the entire journey.
