Staples Rugby Travel Funds
The Staples High School Rugby team is seeking to raise $50,000 to cover travel expenses to the National High School Championship Tournament in Kansas City on June 17th to the 19th. This marks the first time the team has been invited to the tournament and is only one of 16 teams from across the nation selected to the play in the tournament. If Staples Rugby raises more than our goal, all additional revenue will be saved to cover future travel costs to tournaments against top competition to improve our national ranking.
This tournament will also benefit our players in the future. Hundreds of coaches and scouts will be in attendance providing our players exposure to the nation's best collegiate programs. Staples Rugby has placed multiple players on some of the nation’s leading collegiate programs in the recent past including nationally ranked Div I Penn State, Kutztown and Saint Bonaventures and Div II Furman University. We are looking to continue and expand this positive trend.
The Staples High School Rugby team has improved dramatically in the past 5 years under Head Coach Dave Lyme’s tutelage. The team is currently ranked 26th in the nation and recently beat 6th ranked Greenwich High School for the first time in the 18 year club history. The team has also grown from 30 players when Coach Lyme took the helm to over 80 players on the men’s team and 25 players on the inaugural women’s team. The rugby program is open to all, does not cut players and builds camaraderie and sportsmanship. Please consider a generous donation.
