Star of Hope primary school
Donation protected
Over the past month I have been working at the Star of Hope primary school here in Kenya. The school is located in the Kibera slum, the second largest slum in Africa, and the largest in Kenya.
At the school they are fed two meals (often their only meals of the day) and taught essential knowledge that will greatly impact their futures. The children are quite bright and range from the age of 3-6. The school mainly supports the less fortunate children from the slum, many of which are neglected/abandoned, were born with HIV, and/or are raised by a single parent.
As the school is not funded by the government, the parents have to pay for the child to attend the school. The sad reality is that the parents often cannot pay these fees, and it has put the school in debt.
Star of Hope rents out space from the church and because of lack of funds to pay rent, the church has been harshly suggesting the school move.
This has put a great deal of stress on the teachers. They cannot bare to refuse food and education the the young children because their parents are unable to pay. So at this point they need some help from outside so that they can focus on teaching and nourishing the children.
In the future I hope to figure out a better situation for all those involved so that same problem does not reoccur, however right now my focus is getting them out of debt and buying them food.
Star of Hope gives these children a foundation that they would not have received otherwise. They are so kind and so smart. It has been an absolute joy working with them. The children deserve food, education, love, opportunity and so so much more.
Please consider donating a few dollars as it really, truly, does go a long way.
