STARS Covid-19 Relief Fund
Donation protected
STARS Covid-19 Relief is a student initiative that aims to deliver Supplies To Aid Retired Seniors. It was started by Jessica Choe, Olivia Crisafi, and Eliana Mlawski, a group of high school students at The Governor's Academy, who saw others struggling in our local community and took action. We need your help! Our team is dedicated to helping the elderly. All proceeds will be put toward protecting senior citizens in need.
With your donations, we will purchase personal protective equipment (PPE) for elderly people who are most at risk. Coronavirus relief efforts are currently focused on hospital workers and first responders, leaving senior citizens exposed to this dangerous virus. Many nursing homes and assisted living facilities do not have the funds or access to buy Personal Protective Equipment. STARS Covid-19 Relief is determined to provide high quality supplies to our local seniors.
According to the CDC, the senior citizen Coronavirus death rate is four times higher than those 64 years old or younger. 11,486 people 65+ lost their lives to this virus between February 1 and March 9. There is a direct correlation between mortality and age. The elderly are more likely to suffer from heart disease, cancer, and chronic respiratory illness, making them more vulnerable during this pandemic.
The STARS mission is inspired by our grandparents, people we love and want to protect. Many rely on in-home treatment from aids; however, nursing organizations are undersupplied. In senior care programs, many health professionals must work with inadequate PPE. Organizations lack the financial means to provide protective supplies, and nurses are forced to buy items out of pocket. Staff members can’t use proper protection during visits due to PPE shortages throughout the country. We will utilize our global connections with students in Asia, allowing us to purchase the items nursing homes need. Our fundraiser will directly aid the community, giving elderly people access to protective gear such as surgical masks, nitrile gloves, and handmade fabric masks. Each donation will protect a vulnerable senior from this deadly virus and help save lives.
Our Beneficiary is David Crisafi, who is the father of one of our team members Olivia.
Stars shine brighter together! We hope you will take action with us and get involved. What can you do to help?
1. First give to this GoFundMe and share! We need your donations as soon as possible to purchase PPE and send it to local seniors.
2. Write a letter! The elderly living in nursing homes must quarantine in isolation away from their loved ones, but we can remind them of our support. Please contact our email [email redacted] for more information.
3. Follow our [email redacted]idrelief https://www.instagram.com/stars.covidrelief/ and send us a message! We’d love to know how you’re quarantining and hear your ideas to improve.
Thank you and stay safe :)
