Start a Hockey Club in Kakuma Refugee Camp

Hi, I'm Nigel
After a career in IT sales and more, in 2017 I founded The Learning Street in Vienna with some friends. We "nurture learning communities".
What does that mean? We work to support Community Based Organisations, Youth Led Organisations, and Refugee Led Organisations in places like Uganda, Kenya and Sierra Leone.
With our fast internet in Europe and North America we are able to do in seconds, literally, what takes our friends in Africa .... , well actually they just cannot do it - with their smart phones on relatively expensive data bundles and with intermittent power to charge their devices. Oh, and no light to read by at night, and no books for their kids to read anyway.
Vienna Hub, which launched in 2005 in Vienna, connects People with Passion, across Art Commerce Sport Education .
Denis is one of those people. He has been in Kakuma most of the last 18 months working to train refugees on baseball 5, as well as teaching English.
Last week we introduced him to Andrea, who was recently in Nairobi and sent us pictures ofr Hockey in Nairobi, and mentioned a desire to teach the kids he works with in Kakuma.
Denis met Andrea and now there is a plan to teach hockey to 30 kids soonest, in the afternoons, after school which is 7am to 1pm. We are working on #TheBestHortEver from 2 to 7pm, and seek your understanding, awareness, and maybe your support.
Andrea Malilo says HOPE FOR REFUGEE LIFE (RHAL) is our CBO, started in 2022 and we are in process of getting certificate. We are recognized by LWF at BIDII CENTER.
The internet, one of my passions, enables me to do, among many other things, connect with and suport people like Andrea and Denis.
Kakuma Refugee Camp is described thus:-
UNHCR Sub-Office Kakuma has two areas of operation; Kakuma Refugee Camp and the Kalobeyei Integrated Settlement. Kakuma Camp is divided into four areas: Kakuma 1, 2, 3 and 4 whilst the Kalobeyei Integrated Settlement comprises of 3 villages: Village 1, 2 and 3.
Kakuma Refugee Camp is located in the North-western region of Kenya. The camp was established in 1992 following the arrival of the “Lost Boys of Sud---an”. During that year, large groups of Ethio---pian refugees fled their country following the fall of the Ethio----pian government. Soma---lia had also experienced high insecurity and civil strife causing people to flee.
In 2016, UNHCR and the National and County Governments established the Kalobeyei Integrated Settlement to decongest the Kakuma refugee camp and promote socio-economic integration with the host community. Influxes
over the years have been driven by conflict, persecution, food insecurity but also the consequences of climate change (drought and floods).
The Government’s Department of Refugee Services (DRS) is responsible for the management and coordination of refugee affairs with technical support from UNHCR.
UNHCR works closely with the DRS, the County Government of Turkana, the national police service as well as more than 40 implementing and operational partners, sister UN agencies including development and private actors to provide protection and assistance to refugees, asylum-seekers and the
host community. There are also around 60 refugee and community led organizations offering support.
Latest figures can be accessed on the UNHCR Kenya statistics page .
We are exploring what finance is required to make the Hockey Club sing.
If you wish to support Andrea financially by making an investment here at gofundme please do and , he, and I, and his community, would be most thankful.
in happiness with love for peace
