Family displaced from the EP train derailment

Hi, my name is Jessica. I am a single mother to two amazing teenage boys, Will and Terrance. We lived in East Palestine Ohio on February 3rd, the day of the train derailment. My sons and I lived in a cute little cape cod house that we surrounded by flowers and a garden. We opened our home to special needs cats, Ralphie, Oreo and Oscar. We LOVED our little home and the life that we had built in that small town.

On February 3rd a train carrying hundreds of thousands of gallons of toxic chemicals, spilled from the train derailment, filling our town and our home with astronomical amounts of toxins/carcinogens. After several days of train cars burning, the only choice for officials, was to set fire to the remaining cars carrying things such as vinyl chloride, butyl acrylate, etc. This explosion changed our lives.

The explosion released phosgene and hydrogen chloride gases into our air, killing wildlife, seeping into groundwater and soil, air vapors concentrating our homes and all the things that made our house a home. The only choice I could make to ensure my boys safety and longevity of life, was to take them, my cats and few articles of clothing and flee to a family members house. We left everything we worked so hard for behind. With little, to no answers of what is safe and what is not, we felt the best choice was to not risk bringing contaminated belongings outside of our town.

I have been blessed to have an amazing great-uncle Gordy, who has given up his own bedroom to house us temporarily, however he is 81, and taking on 3 humans and cats is something that I don't want to be a long term burden for him. I have posted work ads locally where we are staying for side jobs to save money to find a new home for my boys and fur friends. I'm a hard worker, a fighter when adversity comes, but sometimes you just have to ask for help...and after a life altering event such as this, we could use a bit.
