STARVED HORSES DESPARATELY NEED HELP
On Tuesday February 4, 2020 Shadarobah Horse Rescue was called upon by the authorities to help evacuate a severe case of multiple neglected horses from a property.
The case started with 17 horses and we are down to 10 surviving. The horses were rated by the Indiana State veterinarian and the Board of Animal Health, who rated them on the Equine Body Condition Scoring System- a healthy horse averages between 4-6, the majority of the horses were picked up at a scale 1-1.5. They are considered critical at this point.
Upon arrival, our crew had to pass downed power lines, 8+ skeletons of deceased horses, and garbage covering the enclosures of the horses.
Now in Shadarobah's care, we have started to treat the horses and the vet bill is quickly rising. We now reach out to our friends for help to give these innocent lives a soft landing.
The needs of these horses as of now include: dental care, farrier, veterinary care- one horse currently has an upper respiratory infection we are trying to get ahead of that will require intense care and medications, as well as the basics: hay, grain, salt and mineral blocks and grooming items.
As spring time is around the corner, we also ask for preventatives for rain rot, scratches/ mud fever and thrush. We are also in need of draft sized halters and lead lines.
1 bale of hay costs $8
1 bag of senior grain is $20
For the draft horses they will need roughly a bale per day, in addition to the grains and medications they need to get back to proper health.
We cannot answer any questions about location, horses or names of owners due to the situation being an on-going investigation.
Thank you for your support in caring for these sweet souls.
