Starving HW+ puppy needs emergency surgery!!

We are URGENTLY trying to raise money to save this poor boy's life! Hercules has severe heartworms, a very high fever, and a bowel obstruction!! He needs emergency medical care and a life-saving surgery!
Hercules was rescued by a family who took him from someone who wasn't able to care for him. At first everything seemed OK. He was a little skittish, but he quickly warmed up and became VERY close to their son. Not long after he arrived though, he began eating less and less, and having trouble keeping food down. Their son was hand feeding him small amounts of food around the clock to try and keep the food down and the weight on, but he started vomiting and dropping weight very fast. The prior owner said he had eaten part of a foam cushion awhile back, but he seemed fine. So the family took him to the vet. Xrays showed a blockage in his intestines. They think it's the foam cushion pieces. The foam didn't initially cause a problem, but the vet thinks it moved and is now causing a life-threatening blockage. Poor Hercules has been violently throwing up his food and water for the last few days, and as you can see from the pictures, he is losing weight very dramatically. His family has exhausted every option, so they reached out for help, and have made the EXTREMELY painful, but selfless decision to surrender Hercules in order to save his life.
So tonight we are stepping in to get him the care he needs. He is currently at the hospital getting a full evaluation. In addition to the blockage, he has a raging infection and a very high positive heartworm load, which we think he got well before this family rescued him. Unfortunately he can't have the bowel surgery until the infection is under control. Then if he makes it through surgery, he has to endure a long hard course of treatment for heartworm. This poor puppy is barely a year old. We are going to fight for him as hard as we can. We CANNOT do that without YOUR help though. We need you to PLEASE share his story and help us to raise the desperately needed funds to give him back his life. Thank you as always for loving our Waukegan animals.
