Stash's X-Rays and Emergency Visit

Stash was playing and climbing on his favorite cat tower, but when he jumped off, he must have landed wrong and immediately began limping. We crated him for a few days, thinking he was improving, but then his foster noticed the limping persisted and his energy level was diminishing. He seemed to be in more pain than before, so we took him to Meadowlands Veterinary Hospital for x-rays. X-rays showed no broken bones, and the DVM concluded that there were no fractures reported at this time, likely indicating a soft tissue injury that needed more time to heal with medication. After almost ten days of crate rest, Stash had not improved and actually seemed worse again. On Saturday, 4/20, we made the call to take him to VEG. There, they repeated x-rays and again found no evidence of bony injury. However, it is unusual for soft tissue injuries to persist or worsen over this time period. The vet suspects some kind of myositis or cellulitis and cannot rule out foreign material causing an abscess, although he suspects this is less likely after evaluating the underlying tissue. If Stash does not improve, even after the course of steroids and antibiotics, the next steps would either involve advanced imaging such as a CT scan and potentially muscle biopsies or amputation of the limb. This poor kitten has been through so much in his short eight months of life. He already had an eye enucleation, and we do NOT want to amputate his leg unless absolutely necessary. Please help us cover his initial bills as we have NO idea what is to come for him in the near future.
