Stay at Home, Mom - A Short Film

My name is Candi Boyd. I'm a mother to two small kiddos, an actor, director, teacher and creator. During the 2020 lockdown, I was stuck at home with my 8-month-old girl, and my 3-year-old boy. My industry had shut down, and there were no jobs for anyone in entertainment. For the foreseeable future, I was a real-life, full-time Stay at Home Mom. It was wonderful and also challenging in more profound ways than I bargained for. I began hearing my mom friends, locked at home like me, joking about hiding in the closet or the garage, or their urge to get in the car and drive away from the responsibility, the stress, the anxiety of motherhood. Joking, of course... right?

 

I began developing a story where a Mom...a good mom, just like me...finally cracks under the pressure, and walks out the door. What would happen? What could happen? At first it was just an idea, then with some encouragement from trusted friends, I wrote a script, showed it to a few folks who know film, and we decided to make it into a beautiful, funny, sad, emotional, and provocative short film!

Our film is called Stay at Home, Mom. Here's where you come in!

 

This short is truly a passion project, and myself and my producers (Quinn VanAntwerp and Mia Crivello) are working for the joy of bringing the art to life, however, a good film needs professionals to make it possible, so we need your help. This Go Fund Me will pay to make this movie happen! We have found an incredible director, (a mom! Mary Zappulla) and are also finalizing the rest of the crew. We need a Director of Photography, Sound and Lighting Engineers, Editor and a Makeup Artist. I would also LOVE to pay the cast, which is unheard of these days in indie films, but my actor family deserves better. We hope to hire mostly women, mostly moms, and do right by these "Superwomen" of all walks of life who are crying in their cars because the pressure is too much, but love their kiddos with all of their being. In addition to paying these pros, you donation will pay for equipment rentals, transportation, location permits, music copyrights and all the other necessary costs to make our film great.

 

Once the film is complete we hope to submit it to every short film festival we can, get distribution, and make an impact for moms everywhere.
