UPDATE: The goal has been raised to 50K as the level of care needed and the type of aircraft required to transfer Stefan from the Belize hospital to a hospital in the United States is significantly more money. Stefan will need to be on a medical aircraft plane with a nurse and doctor to monitor his oxygen levels and vitals, as well as administer
and manage his numerous medications and brain activity.
Our son, Ryan, and his family were on a Carnival cruise this week. Their dream vacation soon became a nightmare on Wednesday when they stopped in Belize. Ryan and Heidi chose an offshore excursion to the Howler Monkey Sanctuary to observe these monkeys in their native habitat on horseback. Our sweet grandson, Stefan, who is eight years old, was riding a horse that got spooked and began running. Stefan fell off the horse and was dragged because the tour guide tied one foot to the stirrup. He suffered 3rd-degree burns on his back, arms and legs. He also lost a large portion of his scalp, requiring plastic surgery. A CT scan showed a skull fracture and a minor contusion at the back of his brain, but fortunately, there was no brain damage. Arrangements are being made to fly him home on a medical flight with a nurse onboard to administer morphine through his IV. The expense to fly Stefan and his family home will be approximately 12K plus additional medical costs while he recovers from this horrific accident. Our family needs your prayers and would appreciate any generous donation to assist with the cost of Stefan's recovery.
