Josephine, an overworked & wistful college student, is stuck in a melancholic rut. However, an encounter with a whimsical stranger leads to a nighttime adventure filled with jazz & discovery.

Hey! As a parting project for my senior year at Boston University, I am excited to announce my first big project: Stella by Starlight, a short film written and directed by me, produced by the wonderful Adi Jahic & Nicole Barradas, and starring Felicia Reuter & Sebastien Garbe! This is a passion project for all of us on the Stella team! We're excited to get started, but we do need help. Crowdfunded finances will go towards renting equipment, logistic costs, production costs, obtaining film permits, feeding the cast and crew, and last, but definitely not least, paying for music licensing  -something very important for this film. We will begin shooting in Boston, MA in October 2019 and really need some help reaching our goal before then! We will be sending this film to festivals worldwide, once completed.

I truly appreciate every bit of support, whether financial, moral, or otherwise. As a woman of color & a filmmaker,  it's very important to me that we diversify the industry's narratives and storytellers. When you support me, you support inclusive representation in cinema!

Here's a synopsis of the film:

Stella by Starlight
, above all, is a love letter to jazz. The story follows Josephine, an overworked and melancholy college student who spends most of her evenings drinking coffee at a jazz club where she works on her papers and writes in her journal, but never speaks to any of the other regulars. One night, Fayette, a seemingly new face at the club, strikes up a conversation with Josephine, claiming to have met her before. Though initially annoyed by his insistence, Josephine and Fayette spark a connection over a mutual love for jazz music. Intrigued by this new stranger, Josephine agrees to leave the bar and embark on a late night adventure through the city, uncovering the roots of her unhappiness and figuring out the motivations of the unusual Fayette through their shared interests. As the night progresses, Josephine is forced to reconsider her devotion to routine and complacency as she searches for a new way to define herself.

Student short film, 20 - 30 minutes running time
