Stella's Acute Myeloid Leukemia, Fanconi Anemia
Donation protected
On April 19, 2021, Stella went into Children’s Hospital of Birmingham for a routine bone marrow aspiration to check her bone marrow levels for her Faconi Anemia. During the bone marrow check the Doctor's discovered a high white blood cell count. Matt and Chelsea Suther received the devastating news that their precious daughter, Stella, was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia, or AML, and is going to need a bone marrow transplant. This was caused by a genetic condition both their children have called Fanconi Anemia. A disease for which Stella's brother, Gage was transplanted in 2011. Furthermore, the BMT will need to take place in New York City at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center as BMT is more complicated for FA patients and MSKCC is a leading research hospital for this rare disease. This is where Gage's life was saved. They always knew that transplant for Stella was a possibility, but this new diagnosis makes everything more complicated, and has turned it into an emergency situation. Stella is no stranger to adversity, but she is facing the biggest challenge she's ever had. We have full faith and confidence that this spunky, sassy girl will kick cancer right in the butt, just like she has with every single thing life has thrown at her. While Matt will continue working full time in his apartment maintenance position, he will need to be there for the crucial period of getting Stella through the beginning stages of the transplant. Chelsea will have to take a leave of absence from her job for an as of yet unknown period of time. The family will incur the additional expenses of transportation, food, everyday items, and temporary loss of income. Because of this, we are hoping for financial support so that Matt and Chelsea can focus on their daughter's survival, and not on every day expenses. Thank you, and please keep Stella and her family in your prayers.
