Stem Cell Therapy for Phil
Donation protected
My good friend Phil lives in Edinburgh, Scotland and I live in Australia. I have set up this GoFundMe entirely to help meet the cost of stem cell therapy for Phil at a specialist clinic in Melbourne.
There are many people who care about Phil and most will know of how his ankles were crushed under a lorry when still a teenager and how he has endured chronic ankle pain ever since.
I recall back in 1991 when I first met Phil that he had trouble with his ankles. He had given up hope of anything resembling normal mobility, with the only treatment options being invasive, restrictive surgery and long term pharmaceutical medication to manage the gradual deterioration to complete immobility.
About two years ago he learned of an innovative 2nd generation stem cell treatment available in Melbourne, Australia and after long consideration on informed treatment and care Phil has decided on this approach. A good outcome will be a significant reduction in his ankle pain, perhaps more. Phil's research strongly indicates that this is the direction treatment is moving in for his condition (essentially advanced osteoarthritis in both ankles) and that in the future it will be commonplace. But, Phil needs it now.
So I have convinced him that many of his friends would like the opportunity to help towards this with whatever they're able to, even if that's just a message of support, sharing this campaign or giving a small contribution that will assist him to receive the therapy.
The treatment is in two segments over eight months. It will be a huge shift in climate, planning and travel, even within Australia. There's not much time as the clinic will see him end of July 2018.
The target we have set covers only the treatment cost of $13,700 AUD, approximately £8,000 GBP and none of his travel or living costs. It is a significant amount to Phil as his situation has restricted him to only working part time. He is setting up the account in Scotland prior to traveling as the cost must be settled up front.
A cost breakdown is available on request, as are scan images of his ankles and these will be updated to show his progress.
Thank you very much for your generosity in getting alongside Phil and making this opportunity financially achievable. We wish Phil all the success in the world for this treatment to not just be successful, but to give him back a quality of life that he had thought would never be possible.
Thank you all so kindly,
Suzi
