STEM Toys for Underprivileged Girls
$20 will purchase 1 STEM toy for 1 child
I'm raising money to purchase STEM toys for underprivileged girls in the San Francisco area. All toys will be wrapped and donated to the non-profit, Compass Family Services. Compass will distribute the toys to 6-12 year old girls across 500 families in the Bay Area, 90 percent of which fall below the federal poverty line.
As a female host of a science TV show, parents often ask me what toys they should buy their kids (especially little girls) in order to encourage their curiosity and spark scientific thinking. So, over the past year I've played with and reviewed over a dozen of the most popular STEM-related toys and narrowed it down to 3 brands that I'm fond of the most: Goldieblox, Roominate, and Yellow Scope.
All donations will be used to purchase toys (priced $20 - $50 each) from these 3 brands.
So many families don't have the know-how or money to encourage their little girls to be little inventors, scientists, and engineers. Sometimes a toy can fill the gap.
Help me inspire as many little girls as possible this Holiday season.
Funds are needed by December 11th.
