Step It Up with the IIHA Saints

Step It Up with the Saints is a fundraising initiative by the Irish Ice Hockey Association to help raise awareness and funds to better help the national youth teams to compete in ice hockey on a global scale.

Calling all our players and supporters to get involved in Step It Up with the Saints! Our 155 Saints players will travel just over 22,000kms just to get to their tournaments this season. As our Country does not have an ice rink our players must travel to train and compete to keep our sport alive. With the only ice rink based in Belfast, Northern Ireland some of our players travel over 7 hours for just 1 training session. This does not dampen their spirits with this year being the largest junior development programme sign up in the last 10 years.

Over the last 10 years our junior Ireland players have competed across the globe including tournaments in Canada, USA, Iceland, UK, Spain, Slovakia, and Korea. These young athletes have shown time and time again that although we do not have an ice rink, we are competitive and have won games consistently.

Travel for our players is self-funded and we rely on fundraising and sponsorship to reduce the cost of travel for our players. 8 of our teams will travel this season to compete, which is our largest season ever. Combined they will travel 22,000kms to get to their tournaments.

Our coaches, management and support staff are all volunteers who give endless hours and holiday days to ensure these players are given the opportunity to play and improve. Our Association works hard to raise funds not just to aid players with their costs but to also cover tournament cost, coach and management training and travel costs.
