After having a mastectomy and 36 rounds of radiation just two years ago, I thought we were on the right track with starting reconstruction. In August I had the first surgery of having an extender put in. Unfortunately it kept draining and the surgeon didn’t feel comfortable taking the drain out. Finally, she set the second surgery for October 23rd, five days before she decided to take the drain out to give me a few days without one knowing after the following surgery I would have to have two drains. The next night my breast was on fire and red. That Thursday I called and rushed in to see her, she thought there was an infection, put me on 10 days of antibiotics, cancelled the surgery, followed it with 10 more days of antibiotics. Two weeks ago drew fluid from the area and confirmed there were was no infection.

Good news right? Set a surgery date for this Monday. This past Tuesday she looked at everything and said she was changing the plans. Instead of doing surgery on both breasts, she was still gonna lift the good breast and make it smaller to match the bad one, then fat graph the bad breast to help the cells and possibly get rid of the redness and it not be so angry. Then in 3 months go back in and take the extender out, put in the implant. Yesterday I received a call that I needed to come in which I couldn’t I was working, the nurse then told me the surgeon will see me Monday morning but if it hasn’t gotten any better they will be postponing this entire surgery.

So why am I here asking for help? Like everyone else my insurance deductible ends December 31st. We used everything we had to get this years taken care of. I can’t stand doing this and having to ask. I work really hard but at this point I do not know what else to do. Every doctor visit has been devastating. So if you could help that would be amazing or even share this!
