Our lives were turned upside down Superbowl Sunday when Matt and Steph, while enjoying a rare weekend getaway in Miami from their very busy lives, were involved in a horrific boating accident. The tour boat that they were passengers on was impacted at high speed by another large boat injuring approximately 20 people, some severely. (See below)
Unfortunately, of the 13 people requiring hospitalization, our Stephanie received the most severe injuries and required a helicopter medivac to the trauma center of Miami's Jackson Memorial Hospital.
Having been diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury, she remains there in intensive care, unresponsive in a non-induced coma. It will be weeks or maybe months before she can be moved closer to home.
We, her family, are committed to remaining on-site in Miami, by her side, for as long as it takes - to direct her care and to be present for her when she comes back to us - a moment we pray God delivers soon. Her brothers, sisters, in-laws, cousins, as well as her immediate family are all taking turns to make sure someone is with her at all times.
Toward this end, we ask for your help. As members of Stephanie's family arrange for airfare, hotels, Airbnb's, car rentals, Ubers, etc. to be by her side in Miami for as long as necessary, travel expenses are quickly skyrocketing and will only continue to grow.
Many have asked how they can help. Contributing to this GoFundMe will help ensure that Stephanie will be surrounded by her family continuously throughout her ordeal in Miami and beyond, for as long as her care requires.
Thank you so much for your help in our family's greatest time of need.
