Support for the Gatica Family
Donation protected
It is with great sadness that we let you know that, on the night of November 10, 2021, Stephanie Lynn Gatica passed away. Stephanie was hospitalized due to COVID-19 in early October and then developed COVID-pneumonia. She was intubated on October 15th and experienced several complications, including a collapsed lung and kidney dialysis. She was immunocompromised and fully vaccinated.
Stephanie was in the hospital for a month. During the first few weeks, only her wonderful, attentive medical staff were allowed in her room. Once she was COVID-negative in early November, Stephanie’s family was finally able to join her in the room. On November 10th, with her family and priest present, God called her to be with Him.
San Antonio is where Stephanie’s life began with her amazing family — mother, Margie, father, Jimmy, and brother, Jimmy. Stephanie attended Incarnate Word High School and graduated early from Texas A&M University, where she was involved in the Catholic community and Society for Human Resources. Her compassion for others was so strong, whether in or outside of her career in HR.
To know Stephanie was to love her. Her kindness and generosity, quirky sense of humor, and infectious laugh meant she easily connected with people in every area of her life. Stephanie loved spending time with her family and friends and even found a second home in San Antonio with her bowling league and online family in the Twitch community. No matter what, she always made time for the ones she loved and never turned down a refreshing Long Island Iced Tea.
Stephanie had so many passions. You could call her a cat-holic in that she loved cats — especially her Purrla and Miss Ivy — not to mention a good pun. Her intense affinity for Baby Yoda, Betty White, and dressing up in the cleverest costumes was boundless, as was her love of traveling, especially on cruises. You could always count on her to be up until midnight waiting for the latest Taylor Swift album to drop, and during football season, Stephanie always cheered on the Aggies. If the kicker ever messed up his “ONE JOB!”, you would hear about it from her. Any time spent with Stephanie was laughter-filled and memorable. She is already so dearly missed.
In sincerity and with permission from her family, we ask you to assist in covering the medical and funeral expenses in whatever amount you can — and to please keep her family and loved ones in your prayers. This GoFundMe is organized by Christina Berger and Julia Wyrem Spence, close friends of Stephanie’s. Thank you for your generosity.

The funeral home has a process where friends can send in photos, video clips with or without sound, etc. and they will compile them all and have them playing on a monitor in the chapel on a continuous loop. The Gaticas will also be able to keep this DVD as a memory. Mrs. Gatica expressed her great interest in friends and family sending in photos, as she would love to have those memories. There is no limit to the number of photos and videos that can be sent. The deadline to send photos is November 29th. The uploads must be jpeg or MP4 format. Photos can be uploaded here :
The funeral home is also setting up a table where they can display items and if anyone would like to send anything to be displayed you can also do that. Additionally, Mrs. Gatica will be placing items to go with Stephanie at the end. If anyone sends anything to be displayed and/or if anyone would like her to place items with Stephanie at the end, please let the Gaticas or us know.
If you have any questions, please let us know.
