Hi! My name is Stephanie. A little over a year ago I was diagnosed with Cushing’s Syndrome. Cushing’s is a rare disease or syndrome that’s caused from a body producing too much cortisol. After many tests it was found that I had an adrenal adenoma. In order to cure Cushing Syndrome, I needed to have the adenoma or tumor removed as well as my left adrenal gland. Because my left adrenal gland was overproducing cortisol or steroids in my body my right adrenal gland shrunk and stopped producing. When my left adrenal gland was removed I was left with a non-functioning adrenal gland and became life dependent on steroids. My right adrenal will grow and start producing again but it will take 1-2 years for this process. I’ve made it 1 year! Praise the Lord! I’ve been trying to work and my body is really struggling to continue to heal. My bosses have been absolutely incredible. They have given me the option to take a medical leave and hold my position open, however the medical leave is unpaid. I live in OH and the state does not offer short-term disability. Before I was tested for the adrenal adenoma and had surgery, I worked a lot. I love to work. It’s incredibly frustrating for my body to need to rest and recover. I am asking for help. This is hard. If you feel led to give, I would really appreciate it. I do have a budget and strive to live by that budget and be fiscally responsible. If you have questions, feel free to ask. I’m an open book.
