Stephanie Spoor & Family

Back in November, Stephanie got what she thought was a sinus infection, but what soon proved to be something much bigger. She was admitted to the hospital at Good Shephard in Barrington, and treatments were not working. After three weeks, her condition became so poor that it became clear Good Shephard was not equipped to manage how her Lupus and other issues were impacting the treatment. She was transferred to Rush and then to Northwestern, where she remains in Intensive Care.
Her lungs have not improved. A series of events triggered by a small bleed from a procedure on December 17th have weakened her physically, and she is now fighting to get strong enough for a lung transplant, which has become her only viable option. She is strong, and she is fighting! She has the best support team...Greg, Jason, Nick, Sean, and Zack have been with her through it all. I have known Stephanie, Jason, and his family for just about 20 years. Even with the gravity of Stephanie’s situation over the last two and a half months, they have not lost their sense of humor nor their will to get through this.
While they have insurance, the incidental costs of a medical disaster like this on a family can be brutal. From speaking with Jason, even the most optimistic prognosis has a long period of recovery that will involve a full commitment from the family. I started this to help them be able to focus on caring for Stephanie, to help provide what she needs, and not be stressed by money issues.
Stephanie cared for her children, spent 25 years caring for children living in poverty, and the last two chasing her 3-year-old grandson. She gave everything to others. A few days ago, Jason called and told me how Stephanie said to the doctor, “My grandson is 3. I have to get better for him.” I know that with motivation like that and your support, she can get through this. Please keep Stephanie in your prayers.
Much love and prayers to the Spoor family!
