Stephen Fairweather:Luka Palisæde

My brother Stephen Fairweather (Luka) was involved in a horrific car wreck on January 4th 2022. Due to icy road conditions that caused loss of control of the vehicle & resulted in a head-on auto collision. Thankfully the passengers of the other vehicle were not harmed, however my brother was in critical condition & immediately life flighted to a hospital. The injuries that happened due to the collision include: a collapsed lung, punctured liver, internal bleeding, multiple broken/fractured bones (ribs, collarbones, shoulder blade, nose & C2 vertebrae) & anoxic brain damage. 
           Once at the hospital the doctors put my brother into a medically induced coma, with a ventilator, in the ICU. Since then the doctors have successfully taken my brother out of the medically induced coma & fully off sedation. Currently they have my brother on pain killers in a stable state, they placed a tracheostomy & have reached a point where my brother is breathing well without regular support. 
           The doctors confirmed that the injuries can heal, however, the anoxic brain damage will take time/rehab to see what kind of recovery is possible. I am in the process of transferring my brother from the hospital to an LTAC (long term acute care facility). I plan on being extremely involved & will share updates regularly.
           The doctors at the LTAC facility will test for consciousness & then move forward with rehabilitation based on those results.  All I want for my brother as his legal guardian is recovery & a second chance of life, so for now that’s what we are pursuing.  
           This GoFundMe (GFM) is to try to help cover all my brothers various current/future medical expenses, medical transport, bills & expenses surrounding personal belongings/pets. I do not have exact expense figures yet, but will update this page regularly with details. The previous GFM set up by the Orcas Island community has been closed & refunds are in process, those generous donors have been given a link to support this fund & we are very grateful for that support.
