Stephen Welch’s Fight against Cancer

Stephen Welch is a Hospitalist at Lourdes Medical Center where he has dedicated the last several years to treating and caring for many patients. He is one of the most selfless people and always ensures the needs of his patients and family have been met. He is a man of God and is now needing all of the prayers and support he can get.

On Monday, February 8th, Dr. Welch was complaining of a headache that had been present for about a week. He stated he was a little bit dizzy and was having some slurred speech. He is extremely fit and active, goes on daily runs and eats well. Given that his headache was so abnormal in combination with his speech change, Dr. Welch went to the emergency department where our trusted ER physician evaluated and worked him up. Dr. Welch ultimately underwent an MRI of the brain as his labs were completely normal and we could not otherwise identify the source of the headache.

Dr.Welch was found to have 5 brain lesions of varying sizes and the search for a source was started. By Monday evening, Dr Welch had been diagnosed with Stage 4 metastatic colon cancer.

This diagnosis has been a shock to everyone who knows him. Dr Welch is the most caring and selfless man. He has since returned home to his wife and 5 children where he is beginning his work up and fight against this beast. We are all praying for Dr Welch as we dream of seeing his smiling face and hearing his infectious laugh for many years to come. 

Dr Welch is the sole provider for his family and with him undergoing treatment he will be unable to work. Any donations will go directly to Dr Welch and his family to help them through this very trying time. Please keep him in your prayers.
