What is Stepping Stones?

Stepping Stones is a District Specialist Centre for children who have Special Needs. Children can come to us from birth and leave us when they move on to school. We cover the West Wiltshire Area – Trowbridge, Melksham, Westbury, Warminster, Bradford on Avon, and all the surrounding villages. Children who come to the group have usually been referred to us by a Paediatrician, Health Visitor or other professional and have a wide range of different conditions such as Downs Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, or Autism. Many children have an undiagnosed developmental delay, which means that they may have had difficulties in acquiring skills such as walking and talking. Some children have very rare conditions, which means they have very complex needs. Children who come to Stepping Stones are assessed by our highly trained team and are helped and encouraged to learn through play. They are also given the opportunity to meet health professionals such as Speech and Language Therapists, Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists. These therapists work with our team to develop a plan, which is specific to each child's individual needs.Many Health Clinics are held at Stepping Stones so families and children can be seen in familiar surroundings.

Why do we need Funds?

Stepping Stones is only partly funded by Wiltshire Council. Each year they have to raise in excess of £50,000 in order to continue to provide our service to the children.

They fundraise to pay for the extra therapy and support required for the children who attend Stepping Stones. They are a registered Charity no. 1012556.

Stepping Stones does not charge parents/carers for any of the sessions. They also provide and pay for extra Speech and Language and Occupational Therapy sessions for the children.

They rely on the very generous support of the local community to help keep their group running. They welcome donations and any help with fundraising is greatly appreciated.
