Stepping Up for Renny and the Cushing Family

Donation protected
Hi. I’m Andy Davis, and Renny Cushing is my hero. For the nearly forty years I’ve known him, he’s inspired me with the joy and passion with which he fights the good fight, year after year, with sparkling wit, diligent hard work, and boundless open-heartedness. He’s always been there for his community…and his life has been about defining that community more broadly every day.

You all know what I’m talking about.

Whether it was Renny’s work during the Vietnam war to lower the voting age from 21 to 18, working on the Eugene McCarthy, George McGovern, Jesse Jackson, and Bernie Sanders campaigns, helping found the Clamshell Alliance, supporting labor rights and unions, fighting tirelessly and successfully to abolish the death penalty in New Hampshire, or leading the Dems in the NH House of Representatives, Renny has been there for all of us his entire life.

It’s time for us to be there for Renny, Kristie and their family.

In August of 2020, Renny was diagnosed with stage four prostate cancer, which was discovered when he ended up in the hospital with acute kidney failure. The cancer had already metastasized in his bones and lungs. For Renny, that meant that, with the clock ticking, he had to work harder to make the world more livable, beginning with New Hampshire. He got re-elected to his seat representing Hampton in the statehouse. Then he got elected House minority leader.

Through this whole ordeal, Renny said he had two jobs: leading the Dems and fighting cancer. His other priority is being with his family. “I want to stick around as long as I can still spread some love and learn a little,” he says. Through the ebbs and flows and setbacks in his care, Renny focused on his bucket list of legislative projects. And he and his wife Kristie and daughters Marie, Elizabeth and Grace have delayed offers of help. Until now.

When I asked Kristie recently what she needs, she said, “I need not to have to work right now.” She’s working 35 hours a week at her day job while also being Renny’s full-time caregiver.

All funds raised here (less the modest program fees from GoFundme) will go directly to the family, to cover medical bills and allow Kristie to focus exclusively on loving and caring for Renny.

Please step up for Renny, as he has done all his life for us! Donate today to take some of the financial pressure off his family during this time.

Thank you for your kindness and generosity.
