This fundraiser is to support the costs of Sterling's hospital care and funeral. Anything additional will support the ongoing services for his special-needs son.

I need to tell you a little about Sterling and his family.

Hi, I'm Allyson, honorary auntie to Malcolm and have been blessed to count Amanda, Sterling's wife, as a close friend for nearly 2 decades.

First, I want to say that we are all shattered by this. Amanda is making decisions that should not need to be made for a 47 year old man who was vibrant and joking just last week ago when I dropped Malcolm off after school. This has been so sudden, so unexpected, and has been gut wrenching, as you can imagine.

If you know Sterling, you love him; that's just a fact, cliché or not. He has always made life more fun with his quirky spirit, dark humor, and big heart. Malcolm, his 8 year old son and light of his life, says that "Daddy is my best friend." What amazing thing for an 8 year old to say.

Sterling has always been a very involved parent. He has provided much of Malcolm's childcare during holidays and vacations while Malcolm's mom, Amanda, worked long hours to keep the family afloat.

Malcolm was born prematurely and diagnosed with Autism at a young age. As a result, his childcare and therapy needs are specialized and expensive, taking up most of the family resources over the past 8 years. Sterling's sudden illness has not only taken away that essential safety net of childcare, but will also leave a hole in Malcolm's life which will require additional services for him to understand.

The family does not have the funds for Sterling's hospital bills, funeral or cremation, let alone the additional assistance Malcolm will need in the coming months as he grapples with this change. I have started this fundraiser with Amanda's permission so that everyone who has asked how they can help has direct and impactful way to honor Sterling by helping ensure his family is carried through these uncertain times financially.

All funds raised will go directly to Amanda so she can pay Sterling's end of life bills, and get Malcolm the support he needs.
