On Saturday, 9/14/19, Esther had a seizure in her home that lasted more than 5 minutes. Her parents rushed her to the hospital, where she had another seizure that lasted 25 minutes. In a CT scan done at the hospital, they saw a spot on her brain. Essie was taken by ambulance to Dell Children's Hospital, where she was closely monitored while she continued to have multiple seizures. At Dell, an MRI was performed. When the test was read, the Steubings were informed their daughter had a brain tumor. They began to meet with doctors and the neurosurgery team and her procedure was scheduled for Tuesday morning.
The surgery was a success and the tumor was removed from Esther's brain. So far, all results have been coming back good. The family is currently meeting with a lot of specialists and hearing frightening information. Essie has a tumor that effects less than 1% of the population. Fortunately, it is not an aggressive type. This type of tumor can grow back, so she will have to go in for scans every three months. The family and her medical team will actively continue to monitor Esther's health. Although the doctors don't anticipate her medical status to change, it could happen. Essie will have lots of appointments in the next few weeks. The family's hope if that she will be able to return to her "normal" routine as soon as medically possible.
We can all imagine what this must feel like. It not only comes with the worry and concern of seeing your baby in that situation, but also the enormous medical bills that are sure to follow. In these times we would all need the support of our friends and family to get through. Funds donated will cover medical costs incurred that are not covered by insurance, doctor copay for follow up visits as well as tests and travel to and from doctor visits. Let's help support The Steubings!
