Steve Gurley

On June 23, 2023 our friend Steve Gurley was diagnosed with two different types of cancer. He has a 45 mm mass in his right kidney, positive for renal cell carcinoma and a 24 mm mass in the head of his pancreas. The pancreatic mass caused a blockage in the duct, which caused him to have bile in his bloodstream. When that happened he became jaundiced and lost close to 100 lbs and that led to the doctor visits and series of tests. They placed a stent in the duct so things would flow correctly and put him on medication. He’s since started to feel somewhat better. They’ve also placed a port so they can start chemotherapy next week. His doctors have him on lite duty at work so that he can try to continue on as normal as possible. The goal is to shrink these masses and reduce cancer markers as much as possible, then hopefully do surgery. Steve started his career in law enforcement in 1996 as a corrections officer and then moved to Marshall County Sheriffs department in 1999 where he handled a K-9 for 5 years. He then went back to corrections and worked as a criminal investigator. In 2016 he went back to MCSO and is still currently a shift Lieutenant. This man has worked in a high stress, and very demanding career selflessly for 27 years to serve his community and has helped so many in this time. While he is still working, he will need time off during his treatment. And we all know the expenses of medications and tests are steep, we ask for prayers, and support not only for him but his family.
