Steve's ACL Repair Surgery

Friends, Family, Corgi Lovers

I'm Lily, aka "Steve's mom".  He is a 9 year old Pembroke Welsh Corgi.

Steve came into my life through my previous job at an animal clinic in Chicago. He was an owner surrender and I happened to have a very soft spot for obese adult welsh corgis. Becoming Steve's parent has been the best decision of my life. He challenged me to change my lifestyle and focus on my responsibilites. He has helped push me to learn more about animal health and veterinary science. He has protected me from home intruders. He has licked the tears from my cheeks after a stressful day. Most importantly he has always been here by my side, he is my support.

Over the last month Steve began limping. After pain medications, restricted activity, and multiple veterinary visits we discovered that Steve tore the ACL in his left leg. We also discovered that he has hip dyspalsia, which is the abnormal formation of his hip sockets. With the combination of his hereditary dwarfism, hip dysplasia, and torn ligament the veterinarian proposed that the best option for Steve is tibial plateau leveling osteotomy (TPLO) surgery. In this procedure the veterinary surgeon cuts the tibia and attaches a metal plate to stabalize the stifle.

I am asking for your help with Steve's surgical expenses. I have a good amount of money set aside for the procedure but I am in a position that I'm simply not able to pay for his entire procedure by myself. I have worked with the veterinary surgeon to try to get the best pricing I can but unfortuneately this procedure is a bit invasive and needs to be done by an orthopedic specialist. The procedure is estimated at $2400 - $2500. I will be staying in Colorado for the holidays with hopes that I can work to have enough money and have the procedure done in December before I begin school in January.

Many of you know, Steve is my world. He is simply a stubby dog but he is also family. Steve geniunely loves people. He has made so many friends from Wisonconsin to Chicago to Denver. My absolute favorite thing that Steve does is that he makes everyone smile. He makes the toughest of characters show their soft side. I have seen countless times when people make eye contact with him and then they are immediately sitting on the floor with him climbing into their lap. He has brought so much love and cheer into lives. I feel it is time I repay the favor. This surgery will give him
many many more years of pain-free squirrel chasing. He will be able to go upstairs without needing to be carried. He will still be able to crawl into your lap the minute you sit on the floor.

Thank you for your time. Thank you for your donation. Thank you for sharing. Thank you for giving Steve the chance to live pain-free.

(When I discovered Steve was a Chicago street artist.)
