Steve Needs Our Help: Heart and Cancer Fight
Donation protected
All donations will go directly to helping Steve out - it does not benefit Kimberly (as his coworker, I just set the GoFundMe up) - sorry for any confusion.
Dear Harmonites and our Madison community:
One of our cooks, Steve, has run into some serious health issues. He has chronic heart failure and survived a heart attack in June. He's had two stents put in with a third waiting to be put in. Unfortunately, during his ensuing care and treatment, his medical team identified that he has an extremely rare form of basal cell carcinoma, and will require radiation to reduce the size of the tumor until it is able to be removed.
While he focuses on his treatment, he will not be able to work for some tie, likely through the end of the year. While he will be able to access the limited social services available, this does not cover all of his rent and modest expenses, nor his ability to support his two kids. This comes to approximately $2,000 a month - covering rent, utilities, groceries, and an emergency fund in case of other life events (a flat tire, a broken appliance, etc).
We are hoping that the Harmony and Madison communities near and far will pitch in to help cover five months of rent and the above expenses. Two of us have already pitched in to cover rent while another of us has dedicated a lot of time helping him navigate the social services bureaucracy. As a valued member of our Harmony and east side communities, Steve has been a very dedicated staff member, cooking up your food with care and excellence. Please consider pitching in whatever you can to get him through this rough patch- even small amounts add up!
We will provide updates through this platform as available. Thank you for your love and care for our community!
