Steve Perkins

In 2019 Steve was diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer. Doctors were hesitant and didn’t want to operate because of the severity of the cancer. By the grace of God a friend who had a relationship with the top prostate surgeon in the nation agreed to meet and perform Steve's surgery. The surgery lasted 15 hours and the prostate and over 40 lymph nodes were taken out. Over the next 6 months, things were looking up until tests came back with increased levels of the cancer. Steve learned his cancer was non-hormonal and had spread to other areas of his body. Steve was then connected to a doctor at MD Anderson to begin trial treatments and figure out how this cancer was reacting In his body. Several tests and treatments later, MD Anderson was able to figure out the exact cancer Steve was dealing with. Unfortunately, Steve’s cancer is so rare there is little to no research or treatment options. So far Steve has been in 3 clinical trials continuing to find something that helps to slow cancer from growing and spreading. Steve has traveled down to Houston every month for almost 3 years. Travel and meal expenses are not covered by the clinical trials and have become a financial burden. Steve wants to continue treatment at MD Anderson but financially it is becoming harder and harder.
