Steve Scanga Hurricane Fund

As you’ve all heard on the news, Hurricane Matthew devastated many areas along the eastern coast causing major flooding and enormous property damage, leaving a huge path of destruction along its way. One of the cities hardest hit was Lumberton, North Carolina. This is the hometown of our very own, Steve Scanga, Lean Facilitation Manager for Dayton Superior. As Steve’s manager and fellow worker, I felt obliged to reach out and help Steve’s family any way I could. The simplest and easiest way is for us to set up this GoFundMe site and ask for your help in reaching a goal to help Steve raise $5000 towards cost of repairs to his home and belongings.
Worse still, Steve recently informed me that his insurance companies are ‘dancing around’ and refusing to pay on the damage caused by the flood! Steve and his wife have 2 young kids at home with them that have that have also been displaced from school with the flooding. Many schools in the area remain closed and are sharing school space with other schools until repairs can be made to the damaged schools.
Even though the storm hit a few weeks ago, many people in the Lumberton areas, including Steve and his family, are still struggling with the remnants of this major storm. Steve’s home suffered massive flood damage, with over 18 inches of water in his home with historically high water levels. breaking prior records by 4 feet!
Steve's home has the horrible side effects of flooding with black mold developing in the floors and crawlspaces around the house. Many of their household items have been damaged or destroyed. Antiques, family pieces of furniture, walls, siding, insulation, HVAC units and duct work all damaged or destroyed and need to be repaired or replaced where possible.
Funds from this GoFundMe campaign will be used to help replace some of these key items, repair drywall, siding and fascia on the front and sides of the house, ceiling damage from water leaks on the roof, wall and floor insulation, carpeting and flooring, wall studs, and in some areas 3 feet of the wall from ground up, crawl space duct work, and water damage to storage rooms.
Steve revealed to me last week that during the time of the storm and until just recently, his wife did not get paid by her employer and she lost several weeks of pay. This was needed to help them with their regular bills adding additional hardship for the family.
Many people are suffering with the waste and damage that the flood waters brought. Some of the more un-told stories are the ones of finding a large amount of snakes in their homes that were looking for dry places away from the water.
In an effort to rally around Steve Scanga and his family, during this difficult time, we will be collecting monetary donations to assist them in buying materials and labor needed in putting their home and lives back together.
Thank you to the Dayton Superior employees for your support. Please pass this on to others to help!
Thank you in advance for your donation. Any small donation will help Steve and his family get back up and on their feet again.
Please donate soon so that we can help Steve quickly.
Kind regards on behalf of the Scanga family,
Jonathan
