Steven de Waard's Medical Fund

Hi guys!
My name is Steven de Waard and I'm a professional tennis player from Australia. I'm currently ranked 128 in the world in doubles and it is my goal to make a career out of tennis.
Unfortunately, I had a bit of a setback the other week when I was competing in the Odlum Brown VanOpen Aug 12-20, 2017 (www.vanopen.com) in Vancouver, BC. After my first round match, I found myself in hospital needing an emergency appendectomy. The surgery was successful, however, I was left with a medical bill in excess of CAD $14,000 as I couldn't afford travel insurance before hitting the road.
Although competing as a professional tennis player sounds like a glamorous lifestyle that pays well, at my current level, it couldn't be further from the truth. Any prize money I earn goes straight towards my travel expenses, with next to nothing left over - which is why travel insurance wasn't something I could afford to purchase before my trip.
Fortunately, I was staying with a lovely family in West Vancouver during the tournament that took me to the hospital and allowed me to stay and recover post surgery. They made it extremely easy on me and I am extremely grateful for their support!
Any donation, however big or small it may be, is extremely appreciated! It would be amazing to raise enough funds to completely pay off my hospital bills, however, every little bit counts and I am extremely thankful for any donations that are made!
Thanks so much for your time reading my story!
Kind regards,
Steven
