Help Steven Get Needed Surgery
Donation protected
Hi, Steven here.
The video here is about ten minutes long. It explains things and even gives you personal tips on how to navigate a cash pay situation with your doctor.
All the same info is below, but this video sums it up.
This is a strange place to be sitting right now...
I have to admit; my stomach is turning just making this. Sitting down to write out a fundraiser. Me of all people who has tried their best only to help OTHERS with their fundraising (like when we helped the Pinball Hall of Fame and kept them in business, or our subscriber who is battling cancer).
After all, as you can see above we helped keep the world famous Pinball Hall of Fame Open with Their GoFundMe. That is my goal, not to ask for money.
Yet here I am, asking you for help.
Why am I asking? What is this all about?
You see, a few weeks ago, I hurt my left bicep. Badly.
The diagnosis is a severed distal bicep tendon. I did this in a class I was taking for self-defense... Because you know, the world day is a scary place and I wanted to be able to defend myself if things went the wrong way while bringing you a live stream.
Someone with more experience than me had his hand on my left wrist and showed me how to "cut" at the elbow with a plastic fake prop weapon.
Then that sound that I will never forget until my last day on earth...
POP!
It came from my body. It sounded disgusting and looking down at where the sound came from; I knew I was in a world of trouble.
Watching my arm twitch uncontrollably? Terrible.
That my bicep had retracted and was now basically part of my shoulder? No fun.
The fact that as someone who is 1099 self-employed for all these years without traditional medical insurance to cover it?
No better.
What this means?
This means that I cannot use my left arm properly. The tendon (think of it like a rope pinning the corner of a tent to the ground) has been severed. The tent now just sort of flaps around in the wind. The muscle is not tight and wont work the way it should. Ever, unless I get it fixed and fast.
Yea, that is how my arm is now, and without surgery (and fast), I am going to heal this way.
Losing my ability to lift anything more than 20 lbs, and causing an imbalance for the rest of my life.
The worst part of this is that being fit is such a part of my psyche. Since I was about twenty (I am not forty one years old), I have been a gymgoer, enjoyed sports. Now none of that exists.
The Worst Timing
This comes at the worst possible time. With my wife sweet Caroline in the Philippines very worried about me, as I work hard to support the good work she is doing for her community there, this has made it all the harder.
THE TICKING TIMEBOMB
Lastly, this truly is a ticking time bomb. The longer this waits to get fixed, the more it is possibly not fixable without elaborate things like the tendon from a cadaver etc.
The stretch is letting it go unrepaired a month, and I am nearly at three weeks as I have exhausted all my resources here to try and find a doctor that would work on trade for advertising or a payment plan to get it done.
About the Amount Requested
I am blessed to have found the best surgeon in Nevada who has worked out a deal with his surgery center and now I at least have a cost in mind.
The final amounts are listed here:
And I just want it fixed.
The video posted above shows you the gruesome-looking result of what my arm looks like now. It is not pretty.
I will flesh this out as soon as I can get photos and a video. For now, I hope you are having an amazing night.
Thank you for reading, and I am sorry if this offends you in asking.
