Steven Searches for Love

Who are we?
Hello! We are a group of film students at John Paul the Great Catholic University in Escondido, CA. We are currently working on a small-scale documentary entitled, "Steven Searches for Love," as part of our degree program.

This film is a short documentary (10-15 minutes) about a man in his early thirties named Steven, who has Down Syndrome. Steven is beginning to feel the ache of his singlehood and is currently seeking a meaningful, long term relationship. However, there exists a unique set of challenges that Steven faces. We want to accurately portray the unique and rich life that Steven lives, and to explore the fundamental longing present in Steven that we all share - to love and be loved in return.

Why are we on GoFundMe?
The purpose of this GoFundMe campaign is to raise funds that will directly benefit this production. Not one cent of the donations accrued will be used for anything other than the creation and distribution of this film.

What are our goals for the project?
The goal of this project, “Steven Searches for Love,” is to portray a story that is close to our hearts and one that will resonate with anyone who has been in Steven's shoes. We welcome you to experience the life of Steven from his point of view.  Apart from creating a compelling look into Steven's journey, we intend to give a voice to others that may be experiencing the same thing. After completing this work, the team intends to submit the film to festivals, and to seek distribution.

How soon do we need our funds?
We’re looking to meet our fundraising goal as soon as possible, since we begin production in less than one week! As it goes with most student films, the limited time allotted for projects leads to a very tight schedule for preparation, production, and post production. Having funds in place soon is critical to the success of the production.

What will your donation be used for?
Your generous support will go directly to offset the costs of production! These costs include transportation, housing, food, locations, interviewees, equipment, and the list goes on. One of the goals of our production is to be as transparent as possible with the money we raise. Below is a detailed cost breakdown for the items we need for our project. Any amount you donate will go a long way in helping to make our vision become a reality.
