Steven Figueroa needs a new bed
Donation protected
Steven Figueroa is my very dear cousin. Anyone who knows Steven can testify to his determination to live the best life he can. Steven was diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy at a very young age. He is now 26 years old. Never will you hear Steven complain, nor will you find him depressed. He is one of most kind hearted people I have ever known.
Steven is not facing his challenges alone. His family has made every effort to make life as easy as possible for him. His mother, in particular, faces unimaginable challenges every day as his primary caretaker. In the early years, the tasks were much easier. His body was not as heavy and he was able to be somewhat mobile. Now, however, this is not the case. Getting out of bed without assistance is totally impossible., Medical equipment as all of us can agree, is extremely expensive, and insurance obviously is not a patient’s best friend.
At present, Steven is in desperate need of a new bed. This bed will not only make life easier for Steven, but also his mother, Michele. Michele has health problems of her own that are beginning to interfere with caregiving responsibilities, namely, getting Steven in and out of bed. Medical insurance has denied his claim for this bed, stating that it is not detrimental to his wellbeing and is totally unnecessary. Thus, we are asking for help. If you can find it in your hearts to lend assistance to better this deserving young man’s life, we deeply appreciate it. Any amount you can donate is deeply appreciated.
We are not sure how long Steven will be with us, but we want to make sure his quality of life is the best we can make it.
