We all know that sometimes life is not fair. For my baby brother, Steven Barber and his family, ‘not fair’ doesn’t come close to describing his devastating circumstances.
He got diagnosed with Colon cancer in late July. Moffit started him on chemotherapy two weeks ago. This week he is on his second cycle of chemo. His condition has gotten worse. The doctors cannot remove his tumors and the cancer has spread everywhere. The doctors have told him his cancer is terminal. They are not sure if the chemo will help or not. His pain is unbearable. As I write this he is in the hospital, his tumor is pushing against his bladder, and kidneys are inflamed. He’s currently on Ivy drip with pain medication waiting on the doctors to see what else they can do for him.
Everyone that has personally met Steven, knows he is the one to help everyone and not expect anything in return. He is not one to depend on others, he prefers to do things himself. He is devastated. Steven is a father to his 8 year old daughter, Abigail and 10 year old son, Aden. His main concern is not being able to provide for his kids.
My heart breaks to see him going through all this pain and suffering. Just two years ago we lost our second older brother from Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma cancer. Having to go through this all over again is horrific. There are no words of comfort.
The cancer is ravaging his body. And while things don’t look good right now, Steven is a fighter! So in the short term, our generosity will strengthen him as he wages his battle.
Please, consider giving and sharing Steven’s story with others. We need the help and God’s tender mercies. Thank you
