Steven's Home and Belongings Gone in a Flash

The Fire

I am fundraising on behalf of my beloved partner and valued member of the Taos community, Steven Blaine Hunt. Steven tragically lost his home and all of his material possessions on July 22nd in a brush fire that was ignited on neighboring land, here in Northern New Mexico. Amidst this historic heat wave, the fire tore through his property destroying everything– tools, two trucks, motorbikes, in addition to the home that he had been painstakingly building for himself over the past year. Steven was just getting back on his feet after compounding tragedies over the past two years– his brother, with whom he shared his land with and was building alongside, was lost to suicide. Earlier that year he lost a home amidst a painful divorce. He does not have home insurance, and his family is not in a position to offer him much financial relief. He is a hard-working, talented, beautiful man who is loved and valued here in the Taos community. About Steven

Steven hails from a working class family outside of Baltimore. He developed a passion for travel at a young age, and by paying his way through various service jobs and work-trading on farms, he has visited over 40 countries and seen most of the United States. Steven came to Taos 13 years ago, and captivated by the spirit of its community, and awed by its natural beauty, he found a home here. He derived great satisfaction in developing his land, and designing and building the house that was tragically taken by fire.

He has been working in landscaping with Sticks and Stones Earthworks for 5 years, specializing in hardscaping. He is a true rock artist who loves harvesting wood and rock from the mountains. (Luckily most rocks don't burn, but he’s learned that some do explode). A hobbyist in entomology and botany, he spends his free time camping and exploring all that the region has to offer alongside his awesome pup, K Dog. You will often find Steven hunched over, face down with a magnifying glass staring at bugs or lichen somewhere off-trail in the hard-to-reach corners of the southwest wilderness.
