Steve’s Fight for Recovery

Hi everyone! As so many of you know, early last December, Steve contracted Covid and was intubated, eventually trached and was fighting for his life for 54 days before coming home to us on February 17. In the process, he suffered injuries to two cranial nerves that control his tongue and a nerve in his right shoulder, resulting in his need for 100% tube feeding and an inability to speak without impediment. He has also been struggling with a pressure wound that hasn’t healed due to the large doses of steroid required to treat Covid, that have wiped out his immune system. That wound has reached the bone and we are now facing bone biopsies and two surgeries that will require him to be back in bed for 2 weeks following the second surgery, setting any progress he’s made back.

Our days have been a whirlwind of doctors appointments, tests, wound clinic visits, therapies of all kinds, tube feedings and countless hours on the phone dealing with insurance issues. Progress is slow and Steve is not able to drive or work (yet) and my days are filled with getting to appointments and caring for him. As you can imagine, our finances have taken a huge hit and we won’t have the ability to earn income for some time- especially with surgery around the corner. We know times are crazy for so many - and we honestly hate being on this end of things- needing help and not being the ones who can give. But we find ourselves in a place of need right now to get through this long, difficult season. We also ask that you please keep our family in prayer and stand with us for Steve’s complete healing and restoration and for our family to heal from all that we’ve faced these last few months.
