stevie’s transition surgeries

Hi, my name’s stevie and this is the fundraiser for my transition surgeries.

I paid a non-refundable $7.5k deposit on these procedures in the spring, which took years of really intense work to save. Pretty much immediately after I paid the deposit and fixed the date, I had to stop my day job in food service because a disabling chronic illness that effects my mobility became too painful for me to keep working. As I begin the very long and uncertain process of applying for disability, I have no options in the above ground economy to save money for surgery or pay rent.

I was diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis earlier this year after losing multiple jobs to mysterious and excruciating injuries, while sometimes being laid up 4 times a week with complex migraines. I can neither reliably lift, stand, nor sit at a desk long enough to support a normal job. I’ve also had to start immunosuppressant infusions, which have made work in the informal economy riskier and more challenging.

I’ve wanted this surgery since I was a kid. Recently, in conversation with another trans girl, I compared getting the surgery to ascending to heaven, without much exaggeration. Believing that this surgery is possible, and that I deserve it, was a major milestone in my personal development. Its at the core of my being, wrapped up with god, music, trans liberation, and my love for my friends.
