Take 'Sticks & Stones' to ArtPrize
Donation protected
We are all familiar with the rhyme "Sticks and stones may break by bones, but words will never hurt me". With the ease of connectivity; words, more than ever have a profound effect both for positivity or malice.
'Sticks and Stones' is an interactive installation posing questions of individuality, duality and prejudice in the social arena. The exhibit will premier at Grand Rapids Public Museum during ArtPrize this September and Deering Estate just in time to coincide with Miami's Art week in December.
The piece - composed of wood, bricks, plexiglass and foam - creates two halls where viewers pick a path and decide to stay in their allowed space, or acquire more by pushing the foam divider. Those pushed tubes extend and take away space from "the other" creating the "push and pull" of bodies in space. Walking into the structure wraps the viewer in shadows that are reminiscent of prejudice, and jockeying for space raises issues of the friction inherent in the social arena. We aim the interaction can provide a platform for visitors to discuss how a simple action can have an adverse effect to another person.
Your contributions will help support transportation of the piece to ArtPrize in Grand Rapids, Michigan from Miami, FL. The additional funds will go to insurance, lighting, some labor, tools and expenses for the piece. We desire different environments to record the variety of responses this installation evokes.

Who are we?
Home Eleven is an artistic partnership between Nelly Bonilla and Oscar Luna. Both graduates of Pratt Institute, we came together with the urge to create and challenge the perception of the common and its everyday uses through interactive installations. Integrating different aspects of architecture, art, design and film, we strive to promote change, challenge the status quo and evoke dialogue on issues relating to all of us.
Our past work includes a PVC pavilion showcasing makers for the ‘Miami Maker Faire,’ bringing sea level rise to life in 'Submerged' and partnering with Art in Amnesty’s Miami Chapter to create a hard to get into vortex in ‘The Great Divide.’ We are currently Artist in Residence at the Deering Estate in Miami, FL.
