New Solar Car Build for Stony Point Solar Car Team
Donation protected
Hi folks,
I'm Scott Anderson, one of the parents of the newly created Stony Point Solar Car Team Booster Club . We are working hard to coordinate the creation of the Booster Club and more importantly, help raise funds for our kids to be able to build a new solar car.
The picture above is "Dante", which has parts from the original build that happened 15 years ago and it has to be retired from competition. The need and the plan is to build a new car and have it completed, tuned, able to pass "scrutineering" with the Solar Car Foundation and be able to race this Summer in Ft. Worth at Texas Motor Speedway. That equates to our children/students having the opportunity to be involved with: designing, programming, building, tuning and racing... but as we all know - it can't happen without money for the parts.
We are doing a crowdfunding event to kick off our fundraising. One of the great features of this is that _anyone_ can donate to this event through the GoFundMe portal: parents, grandparents, uncles/aunts, other family and friends.
Here is a quick list of some of the more expensive parts that we'll need to buy:
- Chromoly steel tubing for the frame
- New solar panels
- Electric motor
- Drive train/rear end from a motorcycle
- High capacity batteries
- Wheels
- Drivers seat
- Pedal assemblies for power & braking
- and even a Steering Wheel
There really is just short of a half ton of equipment that goes into this car, so please take a moment, click some buttons below and help out our kids with an amazing opportunity for real, hands-on use of STEM skills in building out this new solar car.
Stony Point HS Solar Car Team Boosters is a 501c3, non-profit/charitable organization and upon request, we can provide a donation voucher to claim the deduction on your taxes for this year.
Thank you for your time and help!
