The state of historic preservation in the “World Heritage City” is in crisis. Don’t believe the hype — believe your eyes. Demolition is running rampant over Philadelphia’s built environment, erasing important buildings that tell the city’s history from Germantown to South Philly to Jewelers Row. History works in layers, especially in Philadelphia: Birthplace of America, Workshop of the World, City of Homes. With the 10-year tax abatement changing soon, one can expect developers to apply for even more demolition permits unless leadership intervenes. We must protect our historic assets, and we must do it now.
This campaign is designed to support RePoint Philadelphia , a 501c4 (pending) nonprofit organization rooted in historic preservation advocacy and activism. The funds raised in this campaign will cover the costs of producing this photo exhibition, with all further proceeds going to support RePoint's time, energy, and outreach to the public and elected officials who understand the importance of the city's historic fabric — particularly when the city is world renowned for its history.
