Where does one start when asking for support, firstly most refer to me by my first name Jackie or Jack.
I’m a very fit & health conscious non smoker who’s into extreme sport / endurance training.
“5/3/23 discharged from ICU”
Where do I start, I’ll be brief but please give me time and I’ll go into a little more detail at a later date.
Plans for 2023
Arctic Ice Climbing 17/2
Bhutan Snowman Trek 7/10
Rewind to 10/22 received an offer letter for a lung screening programme in my neighbourhood, to be precise it was in fact taking place in a waitrose car park.
18/11 … of I go for a CT scan, I wished them all a Happy Christmas and said you won’t be seeing me again!!
Sadly I was very wrong as a few days later I get a call from the hospital saying they’ve found a few abnormalities.
After many investigations and a booked Lung Biospy 30/12/22
I was diagnosed as having Lung Cancer 17th January ‘23.
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ME!!
Firstly I have 2 tumours, 1 that requires surgical
lobectomy on my lower right lobe and the other which is on my middle lobe that needs follow up scanning.
Fast Forward … I’m going to the Arctic whatever!!
( many pictures to follow with thoughts of my return )
I arrive back from the Arctic 26/2 and head into ICU 1/3 for major surgery.
I’m sitting in my bed 6/3 feeling cosy now that I’m out of hospital.
it’s time for recovery but in life I’ve always needed a focus and now I’m looking ahead to Bhutan, Snowman Trek (links to follow)
I need to be super fit for this expedition as I’ll be in altitude for around 24+ days between 4000- 5300 metres.
So this requires SUPER HUMAN LUNGS, post surgery it’s going to be harder than ever before to prepare for this trip due to my lung capacity but it’s important that I do so as I wish to raise awareness for Lung Cancer.
Reality is if you have Lungs you can get Lung Cancer and you don’t have to fit a certain criteria.
I have lots of knowledge which I’d love to share with you all on my journey, whether it is fitness, training, recovery, mindset, cancer, mental well-being, photos, extreme sports, detailed information about my trip … the list is endless.
Come away with me virtually from the comfort of your own home!!
I need to raise £20,000 to
pay for The Snowman trip and on
the backing of this I plan to raise awareness and funds for a cancer charity.
I’ve raised £1000’s in the past for cancer and participated in lots of voluntary work but now it’s about time we spoke about Lung Cancer Screening (it saved my life), it’s a cancer many hide behind especially having a smoker stigma attached to it!!
You’d be shocked to know more non smoking women die of lung cancer as opposed to breast cancer!!
… much more to follow ❄️
