Stop Lake Lanier Sewer Plant

Stop Lake Lanier Sewage Plant!

It has come to our attention that Forsyth County is in the process of acquiring approximately 100 acres off Four Mile Creek between Little Mill Rd and Jot Em Down Rd.

It is the intention of Forsyth County to build and operate a sewage treatment facility very near Lake Lanier.

We have confirmed that the county is performing due diligence regarding this parcel of land to acquire.  They are surveying and conducting preliminary engineering to determine if the property is suitable for their intended use.  Confirmation came by the way of discussion with the county commissioner representing our district, Cindy Mills.

It is also important to note that no representative of the county reached out to inform us of their intention.  One of our neighbors that lives in Saddle Creek Farms happened to see surveyors working and began making phone calls for information.

Environmental and Other Impacts

A sewage treatment plant will likely impact our neighborhood in a negative manner.  A treatment plant typically receives human liquid and solid waste through a series of pipes and pumps called lift stations.  Once received into the plant it stores the material to let the solids settle to the bottom.  Fats and greases float to the top and are stripped off.  Later, the water is typically pumped off and after going through a treatment process is discharged, in this case directly into Four Mile Creek then to Lake Lanier.  The remaining solids can be processed via digesters, aeration, drying, chemical injection, microbial action or any combination of the above depending on the design.  While this is an oversimplfication of the system, it gives you an idea of what the county intends for our backyards.

A raw sewage spill will have severe lasting effects on water quality and recreation.

- Increased silt in Four Mile Creek

-Foul odors from open tanks and the filtration process

-Noise pollution from the plant and heavy equipment

It was only recently on November 13th, 2018 that Forsyth County spilled 200,000 gallons of raw sewage into a creek near another sewage treatment plant.  We cannot let this happen!

Please give to protect Lake Lanier!

Note on Funds Received:

All funds received will be used to convince Forsyth County to not build the sewage plant on this parcel of land connected to Lake Lanier.  Any funds not used at the end of our campaign will be returned pro-rated based on your amount donated.  These funds will not be used for any other purpose!
