STOP SCHOLL CANYON POWER PLANT NOW!

SAVE OUR HILLSIDES, OUR HEALTH, OUR HOMES

Glenoaks Canyon Homeowners Association (GOCHA) is leading the charge to stop the City of Glendale from building a polluting power plant on our hillsides. Linda Vista-Annandale Association (LVAA) and The Eagle Rock Association (TERA) support this effort.

WE NEED YOUR HELP NOW AND THE CLOCK IS TICKING!

GOCHA is asking for donations to help finance LEGAL ACTION to stop this plant from being built. Glendale Water and Power (GWP) convinced 3 of the 5 elected City Council Members to back this poorly planned project in a high-risk fire zone, near an earthquake fault, on a hillside surrounded by residential neighborhoods.

How did this happen? On October 6, the Glendale Planning Commission UNANIMOUSLY rejected GWP’s plan to construct a power plant at Scholl Canyon Landfill.

But then, on November 30, the City Council Members, despite overwhelming community opposition, overruled the Planning Commission’s sound and thoughtful decision.

Now it’s up to the citizens of Glendale and nearby communities to STOP this power plant and the long-lasting damage it will have on our environment.

Here’s what we’re fighting for:

OUR HILLSIDES
The Scholl Canyon Landfill area is surrounded by recreational and residential areas. The site is not zoned for this project, so a conditional use permit, which would be required, could lead to the industrialization of the area.

OUR HEALTH
The project would increase emissions as compared to the flares now in use for all six “criteria pollutants” (nitrogen dioxide, carbon monoxide, volatile organic matter, two categories of particulate matter, and sulfur dioxide). For three, the increase would exceed the SCAQMD daily significance threshold. These pollutants will decrease air quality in the LA basin. More importantly, they could cause harm to the respiratory system, the central nervous system, the immune system, cardiovascular function, kidney function, and brain development in children.

OUR HOMES
The power plant will be in a very high-risk fire zone. Wildfire is a huge risk to Glenoaks and Chevy Chase Canyons, the Linda Vista-Annandale neighborhood, and Eagle Rock. Escape routes in these communities are limited due to multiple narrow, single-access roads.

The power plant would affect all of us, not just those who live in the surrounding canyons but all residents of Glendale, Eagle Rock, and Pasadena.
Please donate today for OUR HILLSIDES, OUR HEALTH, OUR HOMES.
