My name is Missy, and I live in Seville, Ohio. I'm part of a large group of concerned Sevillians that want to stop our local council from approving new construction on an existing farm property.
Seville is a quintessential small-town farming community of about 2600 people. We value small-town living, front porch sitting, and looking out for our neighbors.
Unfortunately, we recently were informed that a developer out of Kansas purchased 100 acres of farmland adjacent to our residential neighborhood. The proposed plan for this development is to build three 55' tall Industrial Distribution Centers with 227 semi docks and 711 parking spaces on this property. In addition, the access roads for the semi-traffic will run 50 ft from our neighborhood. That's over 1000 trucks a day that would potentially drive right next to our homes.
We've pleaded with our Village government to reconsider accepting this plan due to the health issues that the diesel fumes and idling trucks pose so close to a residential neighborhood. We've given them logical and reasonable concerns over the placement of this Industrial Warehouse project so close to an existing community, including loss of property values, crime, noise, pollution, stormwater runoff, and several zoning code violations.
Their response has been to hold emergency meetings to change our zoning codes to accommodate the Developer and include emergency language, which prevents us from doing a referendum to overturn their amendments.
After consulting with a law firm, we've decided that our best recourse is to file a lawsuit against the Village to stop the building of this project and force them to abide by the laws and codes in place for this type of district.
But I can't do this alone.... I NEED YOUR HELP.
Please consider donating to the legal fund to help cover the expenses of hiring an attorney to protect the neighborhood and our small community.
All funds collected will go directly to legal expenses, and any monies exceeding those expenses will be donated to a nonprofit group that directly affects the community.
You can contact me directly with any questions regarding this issue. Thank you for taking the time to read our story and hopefully helping us save our small community.
