Stop The Landfill At Lower Brenton Farm
Donation protected
Three days before Christmas 2021, residents in two parishes south-west of Exeter awoke to find that plans had been submitted to create a huge landfill site near their homes. Since then, there has been fierce opposition to the planning application, and 3,325 people signed a petition against the proposal.
Local residents successfully opposed the proposed new landfill site between Kennford and Shillingford in 2022. The application at Lower Brenton Farm was quietly resubmitted last year and public relations consultants were retained to make the case for the development.
Since the revised application was published at the end of July 2023, our local campaign group has focused on refuting many of the arguments included in the application, and informing local residents of the real impact and negative consequences of the development.
Thanks to everyone that donated to our previous fundraising, we have been able to produce and distribute over two thousand leaflets, print hundreds of car stickers and laminated posters, and produce two large banners, erected in visible locations near the proposed site. We have also set up our own website - stopthelandfill.co.uk
As a result of these activities, over 1,200 objections have so far been submitted, and 3,325 concerned individuals signed a petition against the proposal. We are continuing our efforts to stop this landfill site, and as public consultation and scrutiny of the application continues, we plan to produce more publicity materials and generate wider awareness through social media, press and TV coverage.
The applicant has spent hundreds of thousands of pounds to inflict this development on the local community. We have been successful so far in highlighting the inadequacies and inaccuracies in the planning proposal, and causing the Planning Authority to demand that "further environmental information is necessary to address omissions and inaccuracies within the submitted Environmental Statement together with other documents accompanying the application".
In order to continue our fight against this unjust application, we need additional funds to finance our publicity and awareness campaign over the coming months. Thanks to the efforts of local volunteers, much of the cost of the campaign has been mitigated by the time and commitment of concerned individuals; however, additional funds are needed to continue the fight and produce the materials needed to inform the public about the insanity of this proposal.
If you would like to contribute, any donation, no matter how small, would be very much appreciated, and will directly support the momentum to stop the landfill site.
