Build the River Park Not an RV Park!

Long Beach City is moving ahead allowing construction on a site that held toxic waste from oil production for almost 100 years. They are planning to allow construction of a storage facility and RV parking lot with capacity for over 500 vehicles.
People in our part of Long Beach already struggle from the effects of the 405 and the 710, two heavily trafficked and overly industrialized areas. We already breathe some of the worst air in the country because of the port and massive freeways near us. Many children at Los Cerritos Elementary School and in the neighborhood have asthma and allergies. Our children should be able to play outside without getting sick.
What our community needs is not a massive parking lot for RVs, trailers, and boats. What we need is better protection from the bad air and access to beautiful green space. We need that area to be planted with trees to help mitigate smog coming off the freeways. This land is the wrong location for an RV park. More asphalt here will increase the flooding in the Wrigley neighborhoods below it.
To stop the construction, we need to go to the courts. That will mean hiring lawyers to represent our community. That won't be cheap. Our $10,000 will be an initial fee to retain a legal team to represent our rights against the City of Long Beach.
An anonymous donor in our neighborhood has come forward to pledge a matching donation for every dollar that we raise toward our goal of $10,000. Every $100 you donate will bring us $200 closer to our goal.
Please be generous. This is for our health, our access to the green space long promised to us in the Riverlinks Plan to revitalize the Lower LA River, our property values, our neighborhood children, and our peace of mind.
