Stop the Waste & Septic Transfer Stn at Pine Jct.

We are a community of citizens greatly concerned who moved to this peaceful mountain region in Colorado to enjoy all that life away from the big city has to offer. We are now faced with a perfect storm of commercial, utility and heavy industrial development that threatens quality of the air we breathe, the water we drink, the value of our homes; and worrying about increased or cancelled home owners insurance, increased fire dangers, more noise, more traffic....

Here's what's going on. Earlier in 2023, Park County Government approved zoning and use permits to allow CORE Electric to build a regional administrative office and 115Kv sub-station along our peaceful road. This facility will sit directly across from other long-standing commercial operations: propane gas company, storage facility and auto repair company.

In August of 2023, the county began the process to hear arguments for and against an application to re-zone 58+ acres from residential to "PUD" (Planned Unit Development) for the specific purpose of "heavy industrial" to construct and operate a Waste and Septic Transfer Station. These facilities are known to produce dangerous, explosive gas(es), have heavy truck operations (12+ per day) from 6a to at least 5p creating additional noise, dust and further erosion of a poorly maintained road. Neither the applicant nor the county have completed proper traffic, environmental and other necessary studies to determine feasibility.

The road along which he is building the facility serves approximately 235 homes. These homeowners have no other escape route in case of a fire at the entrance/exit onto US Highway 285. An adjoining development of 113 homes is on a community water system and their wells sit at the bottom of the hill on which the applicant is building his facility. So any spills will leak directly into these wells and eventually end up into the aquifer that serves everyone in the area (the rest of us on on individual wells).

In March 2023, the county served the applicant a "Cease and Desist" order to stop dumping and processing raw septage on his own property another 2 miles down Wandcrest from where he is proposing to build his facility. He has now ignored no less than 6 Cease & Desist Orders from the county and they are not enforcing any of them.

The purpose of this GoFundMe is to raise awareness, raise funding for and major PR campaign and to help with legal fees. We have been told that a full on land use legal battle could run as high as $200,000 or more....

There are players at the county who seem to be acting on behalf of the applicant rather than protecting the citizens they serve. Thank you for reading our story and for your support!
